How long does the building process take?
Depending on the extent of your project, a new pool takes approximately 6-10 weeks. At the beginning of construction, your project manager will provide you a detailed time line of what to expect so you can start planning your next pool party!
Some companies advertise that they include free plans? Why don’t you?
It is true that some companies will try to entice you with the offer of “free plans”. Here are the top 5 things to consider:
Reason #1: Plans communicate your vision.
You have a vision in your mind about what your yard will look like. You might have a great builder, but not a good mind reader. Get your plans on paper, and make sure they are to scale. This will help the builder get measurements, build everything where intended, and provide a better estimate. Many plans come with a 3D image or video- you can see what your yard will look like before you ever being! You can also get a good idea in advance if you want to make any changes- move something closer or farther away to make the most use of your space.
Reason #2: There’s no such thing as “Free Plans”.
It might be tempting to take advantage of a “free plans included” offer through a builder, but there’s a catch. Those plans are not yours, so you can’t use them to get bids from other contractors. The builder may give you free plans, but they are the only ones who will be bidding those plans, so you’ll never know if you are getting a good price. In addition, the “plans” are usually a drawing, not to scale, and don’t include important details for irrigation, landscape lighting, and softscape. Get a professional set and get quotes from multiple bidders.
Reason #3: The Professional
Hiring a professional to do your landscape plans is likely to include:
– A site visit to discuss your dream yard!
– Measurements of yard
– Meeting with you to discuss your wants/needs and how you want to use your space
– Revisions
– A drainage plan, a softscape plan, an irrigation plan, a lighting plan… don’t leave these things to chance!
A good builder will want these items to be specified to make sure that your project goes smoothly. Not including these from the beginning could cost much more later.
Reason #4 Protect your investment
Building your dream yard is a significant financial investment. Protect that investment by making sure it’s done right from the start. Although professional plans may cost anywhere from $3000-$7000 on up, they help make sure that your investment results in the yard you want. Landscape architects consider things like sun exposure, wind direction while BBQ’ing, setbacks, line of sight, and layout for maximum enjoyment.
Reason #5: Plans save you $
You can get bids according to your plans. The more specific your plans are, the better a builder can anticipate the costs of your project. You can always make changes during the course of your project if you decide on something other than in your plans, but when your bid is “per plans” you can better manage the expenses and know what is included.
When is the best time to install a swimming pool?
The best time to build a pool is now. Pools are year round enjoyment in Southern California, and the sooner you start your project, the sooner you will be enjoying it with your family and friends!
Will a pool increase the value of my home?
Yes. Most studies show that in Southern California, a pool will increase the value of your home anywhere between 7% and 15%, depending on where your home is located. Consult with your realtor for specifics on how adding a pool may contribute to your homes value or increase it’s rental value.
What about warranties? Is my investment well-protected?
Warranties are very important. At Atlas Pools, Inc., we provide you some of the strongest guarantees in the swimming pool industry. We are confident in the product we build and we offer a warranty that backs it up. You should also remember that a warranty is only as good as the company that issues it. Dozens of pool builders go out of business each year. If they’re gone, so is your warranty. We’ve been in business since 1996 and warranty all our own work.
How much work is involved in owning and caring for a swimming pool?
In the past, pool maintenance was somewhat of a chore. But with today’s technology and conveniences, owning a swimming pool is easier than owning a car! Pool chemical testing and maintenance, cleaning, and pre-programmed filtration and heating can all be automated. Automatic pool cleaners and various sanitizing devices also make your pool simple to maintain. Atlas Pools will start up your pool so you can begin enjoying it right away, and connect you with a trusted service company for weekly maintenance.
Why do I see advertisements promising pools at very low prices?
It is actually possible to build a pool at a low price, but you should be aware that to build a low cost pool, the equipment, structural elements, craftsmanship and design are all compromised. The old adage is true: You get what you pay for.
Why do cost estimates vary so much when the pools seem to be the same?
The price of a pool is determined by much more than just the size and shape of that pool. Unfortunately, many contractors don’t include important factors that affect cost in the actual estimate they give you. This also means that you can get hit with hidden charges after construction has begun. Some important things to consider are:
- Quality of Materials
- Craftsmanship
- Design Expertise
- Structural Strength and Durability
- Customer Service
- Time Required for Construction
- Warranties, see more…
Atlas Pools, Inc. estimates always include the highest quality materials available, superior craftsmanship, expert design, and unparalleled customer service. We never submit a low introductory bid with the intent of making expensive changes later.
Should I consider building my own pool as an owner/builder?
No. Even the experts encounter challenges during pool construction. Years of experience, knowledge, and specific training lead to effective solutions that produce our superior quality finished products. At Atlas Pools, Inc., we offer you enormous buying power, efficient construction, plus we coordinate all of the work so that you experience minimal hassles or delays. And remember, it can be very difficult (if not impossible) to manage your warranties without a General Contractor. We have been called on many times to finish a pool started by an owner/builder or to correct costly mistakes made by sub-contractors who would not honor their warranties.
