The Process

Building Confidence & Quality: The Building Process

Here’s What You Can Expect While every custom built pool is different, the design and building process generally remains the same. Here’s what you can expect after you contact Atlas Pools, Inc.

To begin, one of our expert designers will visit you at your home. We’ll gather information about what you want to accomplish. What do you want the space to look like? How will the pool be used? Then we’ll measure the yard, consider the location for sunlight and usability, and make sure that you understand all of the available options. In this initial consultation, we listen carefully so that we can seamlessly incorporate your dreams and your vision into an elegant and functional backyard oasis.
Within two weeks, your custom design will be completed and ready for review.

Using blue prints and an advanced 3D modeling design software, you’ll actually be able to see what your new pool will look like in amazing detail. You’ll also be able to discuss and decide on further options, details, and features.
Once your pool design is complete, you'll want to see your new pool in your backyard as soon as possible! But with any investment as important as your new pool, you'll want us to take the necessary steps to ensure quality craftsmanship. Here are the phases that will bring your new pool to life.

1. Permitting
The first step is obtaining a pool permit to begin construction. Permits are governed and issued by the jurisdiction in which you live. We'll secure an official permit for you.

2. Layout & Excavation
The shape and position of your pool will be "sprayed out" by our Layout Technician using spray paint. At this point, you can see where things will be in your back yard, and make any changes desired. Once approved, the outline will serve as a guide for our excavators to dig and you'll see your pool begin to take shape.

3. Plumbing & Steel
We'll use high grade schedule 40 PVC piping to plumb your motor, pump, cleaning system and water features. Your new pool will get a skeleton of steel that is contoured to the shape of your pool in a ridged grid. Your pool will now have its initial inspection.

4. Electrical

We’ll make all of the electrical connections in your pool using National Electrical Code approved conduit, wire and bonding.

5. Shotcrete
Shotcrete is a mixture of sand, rock, cement, water and fibermix additive for extra strength. This advanced formula is shot from a hose onto the steel grid by an experienced shotcrete crew to provide a tough, durable pool shell.

6. Water Features, Boulders & Decking
Waterfalls, boulders, and sheer descents will be added in this is the phase.  A minimum of 2-foot wide decking is formed around the perimeter of your pool.

The use of natural and/or manmade rock can have a dramatic effect on your swimming pool design. From natural stone veneers on a raised wall or deck to dramatic boulders flanking a pool or defining a waterfall, the use of rock helps to create the kind of serene and breathtaking atmosphere you’d find in nature.

Atlas Pools, Inc. can use these same types of stone and/or rock to create a stunning BBQ and/or fireplace to compliment the look of your swimming pool. If you have chosen to include features like custom walls, rock features, waterfalls, a bar-b-que or a fireplace, they will be built or installed during this phase of construction.

8. Deck
It usually takes two weeks to prepare the deck and one week to install the decking, then your pool will go through another inspection. Any options such as gates, fences, or alarms will also be installed at this time. Pool decking can be done in a variety of materials, and will both frame your pool and enhance the beauty of your backyard with many choices in materials, colors and patterns. Once formed, we will get your approval of the lay-out and get an inspection before the decking is installed.

9. Interior Surfacing Once your pool passes your city's building inspection, the surfacing crew will apply the pool interior of your choice- plaster, pebble tec, or even all glass tile! We use extra care to create a seamless interior finish where steps and walls meet the pool floor. Whether you choose plaster or any of the pebble finishes this is another opportunity to customize your pool by choosing the color. Once installed, we will now begin filling your pool with water!!
